Understanding Diabetes
Diabetes is becoming a common word for many individual in the modern age. This is large due to our modern culture of take out food, upsize meal portion and sugar laden goodies in the market. Most American consumes sugar laden foods and is not aware that this habit put them at risk of developing the disease. Obesity is a major culprit in developing diabetes because the body is no longer able to manage the excessive blood sugar in the body.
It’s a disorder that disrupts the way the body uses food for energy. When we eat, the food is broken down into simple sugar and turned into glucose to provide our cells the needed energy or fuel to help us function normally. In a normal body, the glucose circulates in the body and the insulin hormone help in the transition from the blood stream to the cells. A healthy person produces the right amount of insulin directly proportionate to the glucose present in the body, thus the right balance.
When this process is disrupted, the body either is no longer able to produces their own insulin or the cells in their body have developed immunity. Thus, the glucose remains in the blood stream causing a rise in the level of blood sugar. When this happens, medications or insulin injections are needed to correct the imbalance and help the body function normally. It is therefore imperative for sufferers to monitor their blood sugar to avoid a host of other serious complications.
