Type I diabetes is managed by taking a constant amount of insulin through injection. The affected patient of type I diabetes is no longer able to develop insulin on their own and needs to get it from outside sources. The administration of insulin injections must be given in a strict schedule and proper dosage to avoid severe increase of blood sugar in the body that may cause hypoglycemia and many other emergency situations. This type of diabetes is life threatening and must be constantly monitored.
Type II diabetes is managed by eating the right amount of foods, exercise and maintaining a healthy weight. The affected person still produces insulin on their own, but their cell receptors have developed immunity increasing the glucose in the blood stream. With a combination of diet improvement and weight loss, an affected person may not need to take medication, unless their symptoms are far more advance. When that is the case, oral medications are prescribed and must also be closely monitored to prevent sudden rise of blood sugar.
