Diet for Diabetes

If you have type II diabetes, it is important to know that this disease is controllable by right diet.  Since this type is developed later in life due to poor diet and sedentary lifestyle, the natural remedy is to correct the diet itself and to lose some weight.  Obesity is one of the leading causes of this disease and many people around the world are being at risk because of excess weight.  This is because when a person eats too much food, the blood sugar increases significantly to be used as fuel by the body.  However, because of sedentary lifestyle the fuel is not being “burned” or used, thereby depositing large amounts of glucose (blood sugar) in the stomach.

When the balance between glucose and insulin hormone in the body is disrupted, the body suffers from insulin resistance leading to type II diabetes.  A proper diet can help correct the balance, thereby controlling the disease.  So you need to remember that watching your diet is imperative at all times and for the rest of your life.  This does not mean however that you cannot enjoy life; you are still allowed to eat your favorite foods but only at limited or smaller portions.

Most doctors would recommend meeting with a dietician to help patients plan their menu according to their food preference.  And dieticians in turn will recommend a varied diet consisting of high fiber foods, low fat and low sugar and more natural foods to arrest the complications that may arise from diabetes.
